Neuro-Lingustic Programming is a highly effective tool to help bring about immense changes in individuals, teams and organisations. Described by its co-inventor as "the study of subjective experience", it enables people to learn how to run their own mind more effectively.

As such it has been used in the therapeutic context for many years, as well as being used to help people become more effective persuaders and salesmen. It is used by top-flight athletes to enhance their performance and stay focussed, is effective in weight control and in maintaining high levels of creativity. In fact, anywhere that people need to excel, NLP has an application.

Devised in the late 1960s and 1970s by Dr Richard Bandler and Professor John Grinder, NLP incorporates various elements. Taking the most effective linguistic patterns from successful therapists such as Virginia Satir and Fritz Perls, it combines these with close observation of people and with the hypnotic techniques of famed hypnotist Milton H Erickson to make a powerful package of techniques that pack a punch more powerful than its component parts.

You will have seen many of Richard Bandler's NLP techniques employed by Paul McKenna in his tv shows "I Can Change Your Life" and "I Can Make You Thin". That's because in the 1990s Richard taught Paul at his classes - and Paul went on to repackage Richard's ideas for the mass market.

Paul is very clear about the effect that the NLP he was taught has had on his own life. Through the repeated and determined use of NLP, Paul has managed to stay focussed and clear on his own goals, and now lives in Beverly Hills, a multi-millionaire life coach to the stars.
