Safety Case Consultant
Safety Case Consultants participate in the development of methods for safe and efficient radiological waste management issues that affect the world nuclear industry of today.
The Safety Case Consultant will participate in the production of safety cases for a wide range of nuclear facilities, plant and operations. Projects are expected to be both UK and abroad.
-Occasional directing, under the supervision of Management, small project teams of typically 1 to 3 people, in the completion of Safe Case related activities
-Contribution to task descriptions, project budgets, project programmes
-Undertake task and project administrative activities
-Responsibility for reviewing and approving the work of project members.
-Responsibility for formulating data and project-specific research under general supervision
-Preparation of reports and other documents for review by project manager or supervisor
-Carry out calculations and analyses of varying types
-Identification of inconsistent or inappropriate results and the application standard practices and techniques to unusual situations
-Communicating potential additional business opportunities within existing projects or clients to line management
-Responsible for communicating information to the client under supervision of the Managing Consultant/Project Manager
-Attending client meetings with the project manager and other project personnel as necessary to be familiar and contribute to project
-Participate in the tendering process where appropriate
-Progressive, confident, keen to apply classroom theory to real projects
-Adaptable, flexible and eager approach to involvement in projects
-Committed to industry and discipline choice
-Self motivated to ask questions and seek answers
Typical progression from the Consultant grade is to Senior Consultant then Principal Consultant, although this is not limited. All progression is based upon individual ability, performance, qualifications, experience, and business opportunity.
The company encourages CPD. There is a structured approach for employees to gain either Chartered or Incorporated status. Other accreditations can be supported also. The principle adopted is that professional development is intended to improve the effectiveness of the individual`s ability to do their job.
-Minimum Bachelors Degree qualified or equivalent in an appropriate science or engineering discipline or related subject
-full UK drivers licence is essential for this position as travelling between offices may be required
-Demonstrable experience of writing technical reports and/or at least minimum GCSE English at Grade C or higher (or equivalent)
-Candidates will be able to demonstrate a strong academic background
-With prior SQEP (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person) status formal qualifications may be omitted if demonstrable experience has been gained in a comparable field
Candidates need to demonstrate previous experience/exposure in the area of safety case production and/or radiological assessments. This may include any of the following:
-Hazard identification
-Deterministic and probabilistic safety analysis
-Consequence assessment
-Safety and environmental management systems
-Nuclear licensing and safety management
-External hazard assessments
-ALARP studies
-Human factors
-Availability/maintainability/reliability studies
-Fire safety
-Basic knowledge of the principles and practices required for the production of safety cases and provision of safety support to nuclear projects
-Demonstrable experience of report writing and/or completion of a dissertation/thesis in a technical subject would be a distinct advantage as good report writing skills are required for this position
-Candidates should be able to present themselves and their ideas to others
